About Judge Joe Dent
Judge Joe Dent is a lifelong Georgian with more than 30 years of experience practicing law and serving his community. A native of Fort Valley, he earned his Bachelor of Science in Political Science and Public Administration from Georgia College in 1988 and his Juris Doctor from the University of Georgia School of Law in 1991.
Judge Dent began his legal career with Watson Spence, LLP, where he practiced for over three decades before launching his own firm, Joseph W. Dent, P.C., to expand his mediation practice. Throughout his career, he has represented individuals, families, and businesses in complex legal matters—including personal injury, bankruptcy, land use, business litigation, and more. He’s known for his fairness, deep knowledge of the law, and practical approach to resolving even the most challenging cases.

A Career of Service
On January 11, 2024, Governor Brian Kemp appointed Judge Dent to serve as Superior Court Judge for the Dougherty Judicial Circuit. Since then, He has upheld the highest standards of justice, ensuring every case is heard with integrity, impartiality, and respect.
His service doesn’t stop in the courtroom. Judge Dent is a leader in the legal profession, serving on multiple committees of the State Bar of Georgia and representing the Dougherty Circuit on the Board of Governors. He’s also a former president of the Young Lawyers Division and a past chair of the State Bar’s Disciplinary Board Investigative Panel.
Deeply committed to his community, Judge Dent is an member of Porterfield Methodist Church and the Rotary Club of Albany. He currently serves the Board of Advisors for the College of Arts and Sciences at Georgia College & State University and has served on the Board of Directors for Girls Inc. of Albany, the Artesian Sertoma Club.

Beyond the courtroom, Judge Dent is an active contributor to the community. He is a member of Porterfield Methodist Church and the Rotary Club of Albany.
